AI Studios, Video vs. Audio, and a Big Win for Podcast Ads!

This episode covers three major shifts in podcasting. First, Caloroga Media unveils Linnet, a browser‑based AI studio that handles scripting, recording, editing, mixing, artwork, video, and publishing in one place—built to match real production quality and keep creators fully in control. Then we dig into new survey data showing a growing divide between fast, high‑volume video creators and slower, highly produced audio storytellers, and why protecting audio‑first formats still matters. Finally, Flightcast launches unified video ad delivery across Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and RSS video feeds, giving publishers more reach with fewer blind spots.

A quick look at the tools, tensions, and tech shaping podcasting’s next chapter.

It's Thursday, the 10th of September. I have the fastest four minutes in podcasting. I'm Gary Spurgeon, podcasting from Jacksonville, Florida. Survey data shows video creators favor fast, raw, high-volume output, while audio creators lean towards slower, high-produced storytelling. I'll have more on this in just a few minutes. I'm here with fast facts, fresh trends, and the metrics that actually matter, with just enough fun to keep it moving. Let's jump into these numbers.

And here we go with the first story. Caloroga Media has introduced Linette, a browser-based AI production platform that puts an entire audience and video studio in one subscription.

Built from Caloroga's own workflow, Linette handles scripting, recording, editing, mixing, music, artwork, video, and publishing, all in one place. We couldn't find a tool that matched the real production quality, so we built one, says co-finder Mark Francis. Linette works like a true studio, with an AI partner that learns each creator's style instead of forcing them into preset workflows. She suggests actions, shows her steps, and waits for approval and keeps creators fully in control. A standout feature, God Mode, turns a single prompt into a complete first draft. The script, narration, music, artwork, and video give creators a rough cut they can refine and publish inside the workstation. Linette also replaces multiple subscriptions, support bring-your-own-key for existing accounts, and it's built on a strict creator ownership. No selling data, no sharing voice profiles, and no training modules on user content. Projects stay with the user and are deleted within 30 days of account closure.

And here's an interesting story. Survey data shows a clear divide. Video creators favor fast, raw, high-volume output, while audio creators lean towards slower, high-produced storytelling. Tom Webster of Sound Profitable warns that video's rise creates economic pressure towards cheap, chat-show formats, potentially squeezing out narrative, investigative, fictional, and experimental audio that relies on lower production costs. His point isn't to pick sides, but to protect podcasting's creative range. Podcasting is strong when its formats stay diverse. As video grows, the industry needs to be intentional about preserving the space where audio-first storytelling thrives, so we don't lose the richness that made podcasting compelling in the first place.

And here's our final story. Flightcast just made video podcasting modernization way easier. The platform now lets publishers run a single video ad across Spotify Video, Apple Podcasts, and RSS Video Feed. No custom workflows, no platform-specific headaches. Creators shouldn't just need an ad system for every app, said CEO Rox Codes. Upload your video creative, launch your campaign, and it works everywhere. The update includes tight integration with Spotify's ad ecosystem, ensuring dynamic video ads reach eligible free users instead of becoming lost impressions. Audio ads on video episodes and programmatic video support remain fully available. The bottom line, more reach, fewer blind spots, and every impression counts.

And that's it for today's show. If you enjoy the show, hit follow on Apple Podcasts so you don't miss a minute of tomorrow's episode. You can find us on Spotify, iHeart, and pretty much everywhere you listen. And in tomorrow's show, Podtrac's August Ranker shows steep year-over-year drops in the biggest publishers.
