You're listening to Podcasting by the Numbers, your daily source for facts and stats from the podcasting industry. Each episode will provide you four key insights and indicators that will help maneuver you through the ever-changing podcasting landscape.

It's November 3rd, I'm Gary Spurgeon, podcasting from Jacksonville, Florida. Do you know how many Americans listen to podcasts? That number might just surprise you. I'll give you the update in just a minute. Today, I'm here with your four minutes of daily stats, tips, insights, and numbers to help you better understand what's happening in the world of podcasting. Let's get into the numbers.

The first number is 67.9 from Bulgers. That's the number of respondents who want more stories from unreported regions. And that number climbs to 76.4 among paid subscribers. The demand is clear, audiences are eager for content that goes beyond the usual headlines. There's also enthusiasm for increased frequency. 72.5% of listeners say they welcome a second, shorter week episode, suggesting that more touch points could deepen engagement without overwhelming. Language remains a divisive issue. 53.5% support moving bleeps from swearing, with free listeners more likely to favor unfiltered language than paid subscribers. It's a cultural fault line that continues to split opinion among the Bulgers.

The next number is $5,000. That's the number that only 0.3% of YouTubers make per month, and even fewer reach millionaire status. So what does it really take? Well, the most basic way to monetize is through YouTube's partner program, a.k.a. AdSense. A beginner with 1,000 subscribers might earn just $30 to $300 a month. With 100,000 monthly views, that jumps to 1,000 to 3,000. Get a million subscribers? You could be looking at 10,000 plus monthly. But hold your horses. Because AdSense alone won't make you rich, successful creators diversify. Brand deals, affiliate marketing, merch, and more. Think of it as a buffet of income streams. With YouTube, now one of the most watched platforms on the planet, the dream is alive. But turning views and income? Well, that takes strategy, consistency, and a whole lot of hustle. So before you hit record, ask yourself, are you ready to build a business, not just a channel?

Our next is just an insight. For years, advertisers swore by the rule of three. The idea that hearing an ad three times was like a magical spell that made it stick in your brain. This concept was formalized by the great Michael Naples in 1979, back when disco was king and repetition was the name of the game in the analog world. But today, listeners are like hyperactive squirrels on caffeine. They hop from platform to platform, playlist to podcast, sometimes within the same minute. Attention spans are all over the place. But luckily, measurement tools are sharper than ever. SiriusXM's media dive into 170 plus studies reveals that four or more exposures are the secret sauce for the stronger brand awareness.
Newer brands, like the new kid in school, need double the weekly exposure to get the same lift as the cool established ones. In fact, bumping it up frequency from 1.3 to 2.7 nearly doubles conversion rates from 8.2% to 15.5%. But hold your horses. More isn't always better. Creative fatigue is a real thing. That's why tools like AdWiz Dynamic Creatives with Synthetic Voice are a godsend. They keep the message fresh by updating the voiceovers in minutes and tailoring content to the context. In this fast-paced world, success means balance, precision with adaptability. Frequency isn't a rigid rule anymore. It's a living, breathing strategy. So it's high time to rethink what frequency really means.

And your final number for today is 73%. That's the number of Americans who have listened to a podcast at least once.
This, according to some fresh data from Edison Research New 2025 Report. And it's official. Podcasting just isn't growing.
It's booming. 73%. That's nearly three out of four people. And it's not just casual listening. 55% tune in last month and 44% listen in just the last week. All of those are record highs. But here's the stat that really stopped me. Since 2015, total weekly podcast listening among the 13 and older has jumped 355%. That's 773 million hours of audio every single week.
Think about it. 773 million hours spent with voices, stories, and conversations just like this one. And there's more. Video podcasts are gaming series traction. As audiences shift across platforms, the demand for visual storytelling is reshaping how creators connect with listeners. So whether you're producing, hosting, or just tuning in, this is the moment to lean in. Podcasting is no longer niche. It's mainstream, measurable, and more dynamic than ever.
